One more push-up!

I’m not sure what I want to talk about this time so I’ll just start writing and see where it leads. Have you ever had a really good idea and then when you want to execute that idea it kinds just disappears. When I woke up I swear I had a good idea but now it’s gone.  I guess I’ll just share about my new plans. Well they aren’t really plans but because the theme for our ministry year is ‘New Beginnings’ and I’ve been trying to apply that to my own life.

This includes getting into shape! Not an easy thing but I’m guessing in the end it will be worth it. I got back into swimming. I used to swim when I was in high school but that’s a few years ago. I really enjoy swimming because it’s like spending quality time with myself and it’s always a new challenge. Can I beat my personal record this time. Sometimes I can other times I can’t. Try and fail but don’t fail to try.

When I was visiting a community I challenged one of the priests to do push-ups. To my surprised he could do quite a few. And when I first tried I could only do one… Yes I know it’s sad… only one push-up. I was so disappointed with myself so I started looking online on how to train myself to be able to do more than just one. The first thing that I learned was that I wasn’t doing them right. So I had to learn to actually do them right and then after that I could build up my strength.

It’s also been helping that we have a great amount of snow! I really like snow because it’s so white and clean. I’ve been having so much fun shoveling. With my job I don’t always see the fruits or results but with shoveling I see results. It’s rewarding and a great way to finish off a day. Just this weekend I shoveled for 3 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday. Needless to say I’m very sore today.

I’m not getting in shape to attract others or for vanity but rather I’m getting in shape to improve my health. The healthier I am the more people I can journey with with. This is a misconception many people have about working out. Many people don’t do it to be attractive but to be more of a use to others. If I was morbidly obese I wouldn’t be able to do all the traveling I do and play the many active games with the youth. It’s for a healthier lifestyle.

Exercise is also a good thing to pass time when you’re bored or in temptation. When I first started fighting my addiction food was my comfort but obviously it wasn’t a healthy way to cope. So now it’s filling my time with a healthier habit. Well in my opinion it’s better as long as I don’t forget why I’m doing it.
